Nimba Mining Company (NMC) held the official ceremony marking the restart of mining operations at Plateau 26 of the Tinguilinta mine, with the extraction of the first bauxite and, for the first time in the history of this mining permit, the use of a Surface Miner.
This milestone completes the full restart of Nimba Mining Company’s operations, which began in late October with the first shipment of bauxite, followed in early December by the resumption of railway operations, and now culminates with the effective restart of on-site mining activities.
During the ceremony, Patrice L’Huillier, Chief Executive Officer of Nimba Mining Company, highlighted the company’s restart momentum, which enabled the full resumption of its operations in less than four months, in line with the roadmap defined by the Government of the Republic of Guinea. He also underscored the support provided by the authorities during this decisive phase, particularly that of the Bouna Sylla, Minister of Mines and Geology, and Djiba Diakité, Minister Director of Cabinet of the Presidency.
“On behalf of all Nimba Mining Company employees, we are proud to have implemented the vision of the Head of State, His Excellency President Mamadi Doumbouya, to establish a national, sovereign, high-performing and fully operational company dedicated to the extraction and transformation of Guinea’s natural resources. Today, that vision has become a reality,” said Patrice L’Huillier.
To date, Nimba Mining Company employs approximately 450 people. As operations continue to scale up, the company and its direct mining subcontractors plan to recruit at least 1,000 additional employees, with the objective of reaching a bauxite production capacity of 10 million tonnes by 2026.
In parallel, Nimba Mining Company is actively preparing detailed studies for a 1.2-million-tonne alumina refinery, which would be located within the mining permit. Drilling activities are also planned in the northern part of the permit, an area that remains largely unexplored, in order to assess its potential.
