Reserves up Finnish special chemical and mining company Keliber has updated its ore reserves estimate, increasing the company’s total proved and probable ore reserves from 9.37 to 12.3 million tonnes, up 32 percent.
Owing to the update, the estimated ore reserves of Rapasaari, Keliber’s largest lithium deposit, have expanded by 55 percent compared with the previous estimate which was released in December 2019, the firm said in a statement.
Rapasaari now has estimated total ore reserves of 8.21 million tonnes, including 7.01 million open pit ore reserves, and 1.2 million underground ore reserves, according to data released by the firm.
“The increase of more than 50% at Rapasaari will extend the life of Keliber's planned mining operations by more than two years. By continu-ing our exploration activities and systematic drilling programme, we will ensure Keliber's position as a lithium hydroxide producer well into the fu-ture,” said Hannu Hautala, the CEO of Keliber.
