Metso is reporting rising demand for its Life Cycle Services (LCS) for pumps, introduced in autumn 2025.

Since the launch, the company has signed several multiyear contracts with small and mid-sized customers across Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas. In February, Metso secured two five-year agreements covering the servicing of more than 100 slurry pumps for mining clients.

The total value of the orders has not been disclosed. According to the company, individual LCS contracts can reach several million euros depending on their scope and duration.

Shift toward long-term service models

LCS for pumps is a performance-based service model in which Metso takes responsibility for operation, maintenance and optimisation over time. The concept is designed to improve availability, extend component life and reduce total cost of ownership.

– Our customers are looking for a partner that supports them throughout the full lifecycle of their pumps, says Roshan Kadanthode, Vice President, Pumps Services at Metso, in a statement.

Multiyear deals drive global expansion

– With LCS, we work in a performance-based way aligned with customers’ operational and financial targets. This contributes to reduced downtime, higher efficiency and improved safety.

The development reflects a broader trend in mining and heavy industry, where companies are moving away from transactional equipment purchases and instead favour long-term service agreements with defined performance outcomes.

Measurable gains and digital oversight

According to Metso, the service can deliver measurable improvements. Optimised operation can increase pump availability by around 5 to 10 per cent, while extending wear component life by 15 to 25 per cent.

Standardised maintenance procedures and improved planning can reduce unplanned downtime by 20 to 30 per cent. Energy and water efficiency can also improve by 5 to 10 per cent through hydraulic optimisation and refined operating practices.

The service includes digital tools such as condition monitoring and predictive analytics, providing real-time data on pump performance and slurry handling processes.

Metso highlights its global infrastructure for pump delivery, repair, reuse, testing and recycling, ensuring local support across key regions.

Its offering also covers the full slurry handling chain, including pumps, hydrocyclones, valves, hoses and pipeline systems, aiming to deliver integrated solutions for mining operations.

Fact check

Life Cycle Services is a growing industrial model where suppliers take responsibility for maintenance and performance over time. It can improve predictability but may increase dependence on a single provider.
