Canadian gold miner Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd has announced plans to gradually raise gold production at its Detour Lake mine in north-eastern Ontario, Canada.

“When we acquired Detour Lake, we saw many opportunities to opti-mize the operation and generate value, including increasing produc-tion to 800,000 ounces per year, improving all-in sustaining costs … to $800 – $900 per ounce and significantly growing Mineral Re-sources and Mineral Reserves through an extensive exploration pro-gram,” said Tony Makuch, the president and chief executive of Kirk-land Lake Gold, as quoted in a statement.

The latest announcement was made on the occasion of the com-pany’s release of a measured and indicated mineral resources docu-ment which indicates a 10.1 million oz increase at Detour Lake.

The open-pit mine is Canada’s second largest gold producing mine, with the largest gold reserves, according to data from the business.
