Zijin Bor Copper, the Serbia-based subsidiary of China's Zijin Mining Group, is aiming to expand copper production at the Bor mining complex in Serbia by 38 percent to 73,000 tonnes in 2021, according to senior company representatives.

"Until 2024, our plan is to increase the annual copper production ca-pacity to 190,000 tonnes," said Benjamin Jiao, the offshoot’s engi-neering director, as quoted by local news site SEENews.com.

Owing to the increase in copper production, the company is also ex-pecting to expand its production of secondary products, such as gold, according to the engineering director.

The Chinese group took over the mine in Bor in December 2018. through its acquisition of Serbia’s copper mining and smelting com-pany RTB Bor. The deal was worth some US$350 million, and RTB Bor was subsequently renamed as Zijin Bor Copper.
