Prior to a possible closure of the mine in August this year, so-called co-decision negotiations have been initiated in Pyhäsalmi due to a possible extension of two years. The negotiations will be completed by the end of February 2019

However, the two-year extension of the Pyhäsalmi mine is still uncertain.

Kimmo Luukkonen, CEO of Pyhäsalmi Mine Oy, says that negotiations are taking place despite the lack of clarity about the mining operation's extension.

- Let's start with the fact that we are leaning on a weaker alternative, which means that the mining operation will end in August this year. However, another alternative remains still to be done, says Luukkonen.

Earlier in November 2018, it was reported that the mine is investigating the possibilities of continuing the mining operation for another two years.

Luukkonen believes that by the end of February 2019 it is possible to know even if the mine can continue production two more years.
