Nimba Mining Company S.A. (“NMC”), a wholly state-owned enterprise, and Glencore announce the conclusion of an offtake agreement covering the pre-financing and marketing of NMC’s bauxite production. Signed in Paris on September 7, 2026, following an international tender process, this agreement provides for pre-financing of over $300 million and the marketing of 10 to 12 million tonnes of bauxite annually for five years.
Over the term of the contract, the committed volume represents between 50 and 60 million tonnes of bauxite, equating to an average of approximately 830,000 to 1 million tonnes per month. For NMC, this arrangement ensures visibility regarding sales volumes and cash flows over a five-year period, linking the ramp-up of production to identified market outlets.
In parallel, Guinea’s industrial strategy aims to increase local processing. Three alumina refineries are currently under construction. Their commissioning is intended to enable the conversion of an increasing share of the ore into alumina, paving the way for future domestic aluminum production. This approach distinguishes between two timeframes: securing bauxite sales immediately while progressively generating greater value-added activity within the country.
“The offtake agreement concluded between Nimba Mining Company - a wholly state-owned enterprise - and Glencore is not merely a commercial transaction. It marks a decisive milestone in the Guinean State’s mining strategy and aligns fully with the Simandou 2040 Sustainable and Responsible Socio-Economic Development Program. Guinea aims to influence the terms of resource development, secure the marketing of its bauxite, accelerate domestic processing, and build mutually beneficial relationships with its partners," said Djiba Diakité, Chairman of the Simandou Strategic Committee.
“This investment in Nimba Mining Company (NMC), made with the support of the Simandou Strategic Committee, reflects the confidence placed in the Republic of Guinea through the Simandou 2040 Programme, the vision of His Excellency Mamadi DOUMBOUYA, President of the Republic. It illustrates how our country is leveraging its natural resources by diversifying its partnerships and marks the beginning of long-term cooperation with Glencore. We are pleased that Glencore, one of the world’s leading mining companies, is placing its trust in Guinea and bringing its international expertise to the development of our mining sector, for the benefit of the entire Guinean population and all stakeholders,” said Mr Bouna SYLLA, Minister of Mines and Geology.
NMC operates the Tinguilinta mine and the Kamsar port facilities as part of an integrated mine-rail-port supply chain. When presenting its results for the first half of 2026 - after ten months of operations- the company had exported over 4 million tonnes of bauxite. It employed 381 people, 98% of whom were Guinean, in addition to 1,928 permanent staff engaged by subcontractors across mining, rail, port, logistics, and technical operations.
"This agreement marks a major step forward in NMC’s growth. It secures long-term outlets for our production, strengthens our financial capacity, and demonstrates the confidence a leading global player has in our company and its potential. It is also the result of the work done by NMC teams to build -in a short time- a credible, high-performing national operator active on international markets", said Patrice L’Huillier, CEO of Nimba Mining Company.
Robin Scheiner, Head of Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium, Glencore, commented:“Nimba is one of the world’s leading bauxite deposits, and this agreement secures long-term access to high-quality material that complements our existing alumina and aluminium business. We look forward to working alongside NMC and the Government of Guinea to build a partnership that delivers lasting value for NMC and the wider Guinean economy.”
