SMS Group acquires parts of Metso’s metals business

SMS group has signed an agreement with Metso Corporation to acquire parts of their portfolio for sustainable metals production. Metso is a technology and services provider in the aggregates, minerals processing and metals refining industries. 

The transaction includes technologies which SMS aims at developing further to the benefit of customers, supporting the green steel strategy as well as further strengthening the service portfolio, e.g. with sintering and traveling grate pelletizing as well as fluidized bed technologies. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals. The deal also includes ongoing business activities and the growing service business related to these technologies.

Approximately 180 employees, primarily based in Germany, India and China, are planned to join the SMS group at the closing of the transaction.
