Canadian miner Wesdome Gold Mines has announced positive results from a pre-feasibility study at its Kiena com-plex in Val d’Or, Quebec. Based on the study’s findings, the company is aiming to re-launch production at the mine.

Duncan Middlemiss, the president and chief executive of Wesdome, said in a statement the company was pleased “to be moving ahead with the Kiena re-start, less than five years following the discovery of the Kiena Deep A Zone. This transformational project continues to present compel-ling economics and represents a strong step toward Wesdome becoming a diversified mid-tier producer.”

Initial production from Kiena is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2021, he said.

“To that end, we will maintain our previously released guidance of 15,000 – 25,000 ounces at Kiena until later in the year, when we will reassess based upon start up performance,” according to Middlemiss.
