Contracts signed Ivanhoe Mines has announced that Kamoa Cop-per SA, the operating company of the joint venture formed by the miner, Zijin Mining Group, Crystal River and the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has signed copper concentrate and blister copper off-take agreements for 100 percent of Kamoa-Kakula’s phase 1 copper output.

The African mine’s output in that phase is expected to total about 200,000 tonnes of copper annually, Ivanhoe Mines said in a state-ment.

“Kamoa Copper began producing copper concentrate on May 25, 2021, and made its first delivery of concentrates to the nearby Lua-laba Copper Smelter, outside of Kolwezi, on June 1, 2021,” the state-ment said.

“CITIC Metal and Zijin will purchase the copper concentrate at the Kakula Mine and the blister copper at the Lualaba Copper Smelter on a free-carrier basis, meaning the buyers will be responsible for ar-ranging freight and shipment to the final destination, initially via the port of Durban, South Africa,” according to Ivanhoe Mines.
