Russia will significantly increase the production of superhard diamonds, that will take place on the basis of Popigayskoye field, one of the largest deposits of superhard diamonds in the country.

According to scientists, the Popigayskoye field is rich in minerals suitable for the manufacture of high-strength tools, while its development can have a strategic importance for Russia.

It is planned, most of the output from the field will be supplied for the needs of various high-tech business that will be able to use such technical diamonds in their manufacturing processes.

In addition to Popigai field, as part of the plans is also accelerating the development of other fields of primary diamonds in Russia, which have a very high value and which can be used for the production of jewelry.

The Popigayskoye field is located on the border of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Yakutia in the area of the Popigayskoye astroblema - a hundred-kilometer meteorite crater formed 36 million years ago. During the the 1970s, Soviet geologists discovered the first especially hard "diamonds" there - impactites with unusual properties. They were twice as hard as usual and had a different structure. However, due to the focus on the production of synthetic diamonds of Soviet government at that period of time their further study was stopped, while data on the deposit were classified.
