U.S. Newmont Goldcorp has launched commer-cial production at the expanded mill of the Ahafo gold mine, devel-oped under a project worth some $175 million.

"Combined with the Subika Underground, which was successfully completed in November 2018, the mill expansion is expected to in-crease Ahafo’s average annual gold production to between 550,000 and 650,000 ounces per year through 2024, while lowering life-of-mine processing costs," the U.S. company said in a statement.

The expansion project allowed Newmont Goldcorp to raise the mill’s capacity by more than 50% to some 10 million tonnes per year, and add annual gold production of about 75,000 to 100,000 oz per year for the first five full years starting in 2020, according to data released by the U.S. miner.

Newmont Goldcorp says it is a producer of gold, copper, silver, zinc and lead.
