Terrafame wants to begin the extraction of uranium

Finnish mining company Terrafame Oy submitted an application to the government's Ministry of Labor and Business Affairs on 31 October 2017 for licenses for mining operations under the Nuclear Energy Act.

Terrafame's intention is to complete the construction of the uranium extraction plant located in the Talvivaara mining area and to use it for uranium production during the mining operation. The company aims to commence uranium extraction in 2019.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Business Affairs will organize meetings in Sotkamo and Kajana for the public in connection with Terrafame's uranium extraction project.

The purpose of the public affairs public-friendly meetings open to all is to ensure that anyone who wishes to receive information about the project and the authorization process in connection with it has the opportunity to do so, and the opportunity to ask questions and to convey opinions to the contact authority of the work and Ministry of Industry and other authorities (NTM Central in Kajanaland and Radiation Safety Center STUK) and the company.

The Ministry of Labor and the Economy has published announcements about Terrafame's uranium extraction project in regional newspapers on November 6, 2017, and January 18, 2018.
